Where to Stay in Vlora: recommended areas and hotels (2026)

Vlora is the northern gateway to the Albanian Riviera, the point where the Adriatic merges with the Ionian and the water starts turning turquoise. It's an unpretentious city-and-beach destination with excellent value for money: by day, beaches and the long, revamped seafront promenade (Lungomare) with cafés facing the sea; a stone's throw away, the spectacular Llogara pass and the coves of Radhima and Orikum. Ideal for anyone who wants a comfortable base, good prices and to be close to both city life and the beaches, without the crowds of Saranda or Ksamil.

Getting to Vlora

Vlora is a little over 2 hours south of Tirana. Until its airport is operating, the practical route is to fly into Tirana and continue overland:

✈️Vlora airport (new, ~10 km away) — still without regular commercial flights in 2026: don't count on it for now.
✈️Tirana (TIA) airport — the real route, ~150 km / ~2 h 15-2 h 30 away by car.
🚌Bus from Tirana — frequent departures (RivieraBus), ~2 h 25, ~8 €.
🚌Direct bus from TIA airport → Vlora — there are services that skip Tirana city centre; check the day's timetable.
🚗By car — ~137 km on the SH4, ~2 h 20; ideal for taking in Llogara and the Riviera too.
🚕Taxi / private transfer from TIA — door to door if you'd rather not take the bus.

The 3 areas to stay in Vlora

Vlora's seafront promenade (Lungomare)

1. Lungomare — seafront promenade Seafront and buzz

The seafront, the liveliest strip, running from the port towards the Uji i Ftohtë area. Open the window to the Adriatic, stroll among cafés at sunset and have the city beach right in front of you. It has the greatest concentration of Vlora's hotels. On the downside, some stretches are still half-developed and at the height of August there's night-time hubbub.

Vlora city centre

2. City centre Handy and affordable

The best default choice for most: more reasonable prices, the 'real' Vlora (Independence Square, markets, local restaurants) and the beach still just a few minutes' walk away. It beats the promenade on almost everything, unless you specifically want to sleep right by the water. Ideal for city stays plus excursions.

Vlora's southern coast, Radhima, turquoise water

3. South — Radhima and Orikum Quiet beach and resort

Heading south, the coast turns Ionian: clearer water, horseshoe bays and hotels with a private beach facing the island of Sazan. For those who put swimming and calm above city life, or who have a car to tackle the Llogara pass and the Riviera. On the downside, you need a car or taxi for everything and there are fewer places to eat than in the centre.

Frequently asked questions

Can I already fly direct to Vlora airport?
No. As of mid-2026 the airport has no regular commercial flights and no operational international permits. Fly into Tirana (TIA) and continue overland. (It's worth rechecking closer to the date.)
When is the best time to go?
July and August have the most sun and buzz, but are the priciest and busiest; June and September offer better prices, warm water and fewer people.
Is Vlora on the Adriatic or the Ionian?
Both: the city and its Lungomare face the Adriatic, and just to the south (Radhima, Orikum, Llogara) the Ionian begins, with clearer water.
Is it worth hiring a car?
For the city and the promenade it's not essential (you can walk and there are taxis). But for the southern beaches, Llogara and the Riviera, a car makes all the difference.
Radhima/Orikum or the centre to sleep?
The centre if you want good prices, restaurants and a city beach close by; Radhima/Orikum if you prioritise crystal-clear water and resort calm and have a car.
Can you visit the Llogara pass from Vlora?
Yes, it's a classic day trip: Llogara National Park is on the road south, with viewpoints over the Riviera; it can be done in a day by car or tour.
