Where to Stay in Saranda: recommended areas and hotels (2026)

Saranda is the capital of the Albanian Riviera: a horseshoe bay facing Corfu, a seafront promenade that buzzes in summer and the best base for exploring Ksamil and Butrint. Choosing an area means choosing between buzz and rest — we'll explain it plainly.

Getting to Saranda

Saranda sits at the far south of the Albanian coast, right opposite the Greek island of Corfu. The port and the bus terminal are right in the centre, so once you arrive almost everything is done on foot.

✈️Airport at Corfu (Greece) — the closest: flight + ferry of ~30-45 min to the port of Saranda.
✈️Airport at Tirana~4.5-5 h by car or on a direct bus.
🛥️Ferry from Corfu — several daily departures in summer; it arrives right in the centre of Saranda.
🚌Bus from Tirana~5-6 h, with daily services stopping in Gjirokastër.
🚗From Gjirokastër~1 h by car along a lovely mountain road.
📍To Ksamil (17 km south) it's ~20-25 min by bus, minibus or taxi — easy to combine in a single trip.

The 3 areas to stay in Saranda

Horseshoe bay and seafront promenade of Saranda

1. Seafront promenade Best for most people

The heart of Saranda: the pedestrian strip along the sea packs in restaurants, bars, ice-cream parlours and the town beach. Staying here means stepping out of your hotel with everything on foot, and the ferry to Corfu and the buses to Ksamil close by. The downside is the noise in July and August — if you're a light sleeper, ask for a room that doesn't face the street.

2. Southern area — towards the private beaches Relaxation and resorts

Heading south out of the centre, the coast quietens and you find hotels with private or semi-private beaches and pools facing the sea. It's the best choice for couples and families who want calm water and don't mind a 5-minute taxi to dine in the centre.

View of Saranda from above, houses on the hillside and the bay

3. Upper centre — inner streets Value and views

Saranda climbs the hillside, and the inner streets hide hotels and flats with panoramic views over the bay for quite a bit less money. The trade-off is slopes and steps: with heavy suitcases or reduced mobility, the seafront promenade is better.

7 recommended hotels in Saranda

A selection of mid-sized hotels, nearly all family-run and independent, with a solid reputation among travellers. Guide prices per night for a double room; in July and August they rise and it's worth booking months ahead.

Saranda is best enjoyed with a car: the Riviera is a string of coves and viewpoints that public transport doesn't cover. And if you're coming via Corfu, comparing flights in advance saves a lot in summer.

Is it better to stay in Saranda or Ksamil?

How much does a good hotel in Saranda cost?
A mid-range double is around €40-60 a night; the beachfront and the resorts to the south, between €90 and €180 in season. Outside July and August prices drop noticeably.
How do you get to Saranda?
The usual routes: a flight to Corfu (Greece) + a 30-70 minute ferry, or a flight to Tirana + 4-5 hours by road. Since 2025 Vlora airport has also been operating, about 2 hours away.
